Jason Hamen, the Theatre Instructor and Director of Theatre Programming at CHS brough several student performers with him today. We were treated to 4 songs from the musical “Fiddler on the Roof:” “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Matchmaker,” “Miracle of Miracles,” Sunrise, Sunset.” The students did a great job! Cindy and her husband Kirby own Audio Etc at 551 Congress park Dr, Dayton OH 45459. They provide commercial and home A/V, home automation, entertainment systems, and more. They service all areas surrounding Dayton and have customers within a few hours of Centerville including Kentucky and Indiana. They have been in business for 35 years. Their current facility is 17,000 square feet and has several rooms setup as working models of the work they can do for business and consumers.

Jesse oversees the day-to-day administration of all township services and reports directly to Washington Township trustees. She was hired by the township as deputy administrator in 2006 and was promoted to Township Administrator in 2008. She has come to day to update us about the township. The district’s slogan is “Explore your community’s BIG BACKYARD! Fun, healthy, outstanding park experiences connecting the community with the outdoors.” Arnie discussed what to expect in 2019. A new trail at Pleasant Hill Park is opening and so far is about three quarters of a mile long. Oak Grove Park is getting restrooms. St Leonard/Bill Yeck Park has received a conservation easement.

Seventy clubs participate in the Optimist International Essay Contest in Ohio. One winner from each club will compete at the state level and the winner at the state level will receive a $3500 scholarship ($2500 from Optimist International and $1000 from The Great Ohio District of OI). The top 3 essays were read today. The scoring was very close. out of 300 possible points, only 6 points separated Emily Whitehead in 3rd to Benjamin Thomas in 2nd. Also, only 8 points separated Benjamin and the winner, Madelyn Thomas.

Muse Machine was founded by Suzy Bassani. Students served are from Pre-K through 12. They believe the arts should be available to all children. They help 76,000+ students in 108 schools in 13 counties in Ohio and Kentucky. They target Title 1 schools. A Title 1 school is one where at least 40% of students receive free or reduced-price lunches. There has been a dramatic increase in recent years of students receiving these benefits. They serve nearly all the Title 1 schools in the area.

The Modern (originally called The School of Advertising Art), was founded in 1983 by Tim Potter and is located on David Road in Kettering. It is a nationally college for design. About a year ago they moved to their current 23,000 square foot location. Since moving they have added 17 more employees. The Dayton Business Journal named The Modern College of Design as the 2018 overall Business of the Year.
