Oratorical Contest

The Centerville Noon Optimist Club supports Optimist International with the annual Margaret Barclay Memorial Oratorical Contest. This contest is for young people under the age of 19 who have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent. Students are invited to deliver a speech on a predetermined “Optimist” topic (varies each year) within their schools during the months of January and February. Winners from each school deliver these brief speeches at regular club meetings in late February and early March. One winner in each of the boy’s and girl’s contests advance to the zone competition  and then to the finals at the district level. Winners at the state level receive $1500 scholarships. This is an opportunity for all students to present their oratorical skills.
