Noon Meeting News – December 20, 2016 – Ray Marcano

Phather Phil’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, this is the time of year when I am filled with sadness and joy at the same time.  Sadness for the loved ones that have gone and joy that I have fond memories of them still with me.  For all my friends, I pray they will use this time of year to cement their love and joy for one another and secure fond memories to bolster them in the years to come.  If I had but one wish, I would wish you mountain moving faith in our Lord and Savior and know we are blessed to be living under the council of an ever-loving God. – AMEN.

Please Keep Tom Beery in your prayers…

Tom, I heard you had stopped by the tree lot on Friday night, good to hear you are able to be out and about.  If you think you can make it to a meeting let me know.  I will arrange for something you can eat if you can let me know in advance.

All the best, Larry

Hi, Larry,

Thanks for the invite.  My game plan is to make it to a lunch some Tuesday.  I going to require a very unique diet…something light…like chicken noodle or vegetable soup.  It won’t be the 20th, as I’m going in for my second esophagus stretching.  Sorta’ like a heart cath.  They stick a balloon down your throat and blow it up.  This is the norm and will be my second one.  Radiation and chemo cause it…so no surprises here.  Have 19 more radiation treatments to go…but no ill effects at this point.  I’m told it usually hits about halfway thru…so come around the 26th, some pretty serious fatigue will be sitting in.  Trust me, I didn’t sign up for all this other s**t that comes with cancer!  Keep the soup warm.  I’ll be in touch.

Merry Christmas and all the best for 2017. -tdb

Today’s Speaker

Ray Marcano, journalist discussed what is happening for the better and the worse in journalism. He feels that DDN will probably be published only one day a week within the next 3 years – Sunday only, where 80% of their revenue lies. He talked about using metrics to discern what is important to readership; how 24 hour news is partisan noise; how news is being recycled and the use of snoops service. He took lively questions and was an informative and interesting speaker.
