Heavenly Father, I know I have tooted our horn before. The honor of being the best of over 2,400 of the International Optimist clubs is just to good not to bust another button over. The Centerville Noon Optimist Club is best described by this: Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise. Risking more than others think is safe. Dreaming more than others think is practical and expecting more than others think is possible. That’s us, yet we are fully aware that it was You who put us together to achieve this honor. Have us remember that talent is God given – be thankful, honor is man given – be humble and conceit is self given – beÂ
careful. So while we are tooting our horn, we are really tooting a horn for You and all the blessings You provide.

2017 Educational Assistance Renewals
We are pleased to be able to reintroduce you to last year’s 4 Educational Assistance Award recipients.
To be eligible for a second award the students submitted a completed FAFSA to substantiate a continued financial need; an official transcript from their college or university that shows an end of freshman year GPA of 3.0 or higher; and a short outline of their continued participation and involvement in school, community or faith based activities.
Gracie Bair completed her freshman year at the University of Cincinnati with a GPA of 3.697 as a Interior Design Major. Gracie has volunteered at the Campus Greenhouse and she has served as a DAAP Ambassador, where she gets to share her experiences with prospective students. She also attends bible studies and church.
Catelyn Blake completed her freshman year at the University of Cincinnati with a GPA of 3.970 while pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering. Catelyn has been actively involved with Enable UC where they make 3D printed prosthetic hands for kids and she tutors K-12 students at a church. In addition she worked on Clean Up Cincy and a Neighborhood Enhancement Program installing smoke detectors on behalf of the American Red Cross.
Payton Weltge completed her freshman year at Denison University with a GPA of 3.83 as a Biochemistry major. Payton is involved in student government and she will serves as the Rules Committee Chair during her sophomore year. She also plays club soccer and is on the philanthropy committee for her sorority.
Hyemin Kim completed his freshman year at Rice with a GPA of 3.71 as a Natural Science major. Hyemin is active at his church serving as a percussionist for a praise band and a praise leader. He is also a member of the Rice Pre-Medical Society.
Club President Larry Lynde to presented each of the students with a $1500 check made out to their universities for them to submit toward tuition, fees or book expenses that they will have this coming academic year.

Today’s Speaker
Gary Smiga introduced our renewing scholarship recipients: Gracie Bair who attends UC, 3.697 GPA, and Payton Weltge who attends Denison, 3.83 GPA. Congratulations!
Our speaker, Martin Noe ,a fraud investigator with Lexus Nexus, spoke about three areas of security. First ransomware, which restricts access to your data and demands ransom. Noe suggests back up data off-network. Second, phishing which extracts information, set up alerts are Noe’s plan. Third is identity theft, this can be countered by using complex 8-digit alpha numeric passwords and changing them frequently. Noe also referred to DDN columnist Clark Howard who rails against the use of debit cards. Interesting questions followed.
